Bartoomé Esteban Murillo was a Spanish Baroque painter. He was born in late December 1617. Although he is best known for his religious works, Murillo also produced a considerable number of paintings of contemporary women and children. He developed a style that combined his grasp of the sensual world with religious conviction and respect for narrative clarity. He died April 13, 1682, in Seville, Spain, at the age of 64. While working on the main altarpiece for the Capuchins Church in Cádiz, Murillo fell from the scaffolding.
